    Pitching

    First Post Banner
Coach B has done a phenomenal job with this program. I know he is mostly a hitting coach but he is also a great baseball mind. It seems as if the Lobos downfall is always pitching. I'm not sure that recruiting pitching can be considered a problem anymore because there is definitely talent in the rotation and bullpen. However, it seems as if we have a hard time developing pitching over the course of a college career. Giving up double digits to teams like Air Force is unacceptable if we are to expect to make runs at Omaha.

AF is an excellent hitting team. Thankfully, our pitching is better. It was good enough to take the series from the Aztecs at their place. No doubt pitching is inconsistent but they've had their moments. Just need a couple of starters to find a groove before the tourney and we should be fine.

Pitching took the weekend off against Fresno State this weekend. SDSU only a game behind now. We need to win out against Nevada toclose out conference play.

    maybe it's the pitching coach...

Actually we are tied with SDSU, the Lobos have 1 less loss, but SDSU has 1 more win. We are ahead on winning %. There can be no tie (because we didn't play the same amount of games due to San Jose series). Bottom line - our magic number is 3, which means any combination of Lobo wins and SDSU losses means Lobos win the title. We are in control, if we sweep Nevada, who happen to be battling AF for 4th place to get into tournament so don't expect it to be easy, then we win no matter what SDSU does, otherwise we will need some help from Fresno who is playing at SDSU.

You do realize that Air Force is #1 in the country in batting average at .345? Groesbeck is third in the nation in batting average at .411.

Maybe it is the altitude. You show me a great pitching team at 5,100 feet.

Pitching was good enough to win last night, hitting was not. Just have to suck it up and win the remaining two games. Coach B and team will have to power through adversity in order to salvage the season. They desperately need to host the tourney to have any reasonable shot at the automatic bid.

Yea hitting was bad last night but giving up 15 hits and 5 runs is not the best on the mound.
