    NMSU Roster

    First Post Banner
Trakh Left a pretty depleted roster at NMSU. 8 players are left from last year and only 3 saw significant minutes. 5 seniors graduated, the core of the team. The new coach has brought in 4 JC transfers, 5'10" G/F twin sisters from Utah, a 6' post from Florida who averaged a double double both years at JC Miami Dade and a 6'1" F who played at a JC in Kansas, Baylee Robinson From Roswell NM. Should be an interesting 1st game, here 11/18.

Experienced players returning Gia Pack, Brooke Salas and Zaire Williams.

Tyesha Taylor Soph 6'4" F from Temple Texas. Saw her in a couple of games last year, looked like she was going to be a good one.

Actually Taylor left the team about the end of 1st semester last season. She is the post that visited here then verballed to NMSU a week or two later. Never heard any rumors of why she left.

She had a baby. Basketball wise it was a shame. After a redshirt year, she was iffy as a frosh but had some great numbers in the partial season she had last year. Ellis and Freeman were plenty in the post through the WAC tourney but they could have used her against Furd's size and, of course, this year.

Did some digging and found out the 6' post player from Florida bailed during the first week of summer workouts. Not sure why. But that does leave the Aggies with just two post players. Should be interesting to see what happens

    This one?

    http://nmstatesports.com/news/2017/6....aspx?path=wbb

That leaves them with zero tested posts though redshirt soph Jeneva Toilolo has shown promise but has had njury issues.

Did they lose any more of the vaunted incoming frosh (I am fresh out of inside sources) besides Mabry?

Last I looked it dd not look like any of the freshmen or transfers were on the roster, that has been several days ago. Don't know if they have or when the roster will be totally updated.

NMSU has a laissez faire attitude about the women's web pages. They never update the roster until well after school starts and usually don't have pictures posted of the newcomers until the season is underway, even though they are required to show up for 8 weeks of summer practice and digital photography should make snapping and posting five or six shots an hour's task. Last season, they dropped about half the all-time record categories from their official record book and did away completely with listing the year by year stat leaders. The have always shown the all-time scoring leaders' photos in sequence but when that one kid from Washington moved into seventh place all time, they just tacked her on at the end as if she was 21st (though her stats were in the proper order). Two more players passed the 1000 barrier a year ago, Freeman and Mack, so maybe Learfield's intern or whoever will be motivated to correct that this year, but probably not.

NMSU is a football school at heart, despite their lack of success, followed by MBB. WBB and any other sport will get day-of coverage when they succeed, but keeping records or putting out basic info on sports beyond the Big 2 is not a priority.

Adding silliness to laziness, shortly after Atkinson was hired, AggieVision deleted more than 20 video clips of Trakh-era players from YouTube (you could tell it was with intent as out of half dozen interviews with players and coaches after the '16 WAC title game, only the one with still-active Brooke Salas is still up. You might think they were cleaning up their page but stuff is still up from seven or eight years ago.

That is sad. If you treat any sport like that: out of date information, erase your history--and the best parts of it at that--how do they ever expect to get a following for that sport. But from your post, maybe they don't care. Even sadder.

We certainly don't have a perfect situation with WBB here, but stories like that remind us how relatively good we do have it.

I read something Kalei Atkinson is in Las Cruces. And I think, not sure, Wilmore is there.

Here's a pic of the team posted by Aggie Tailgaters' photo legend Greg Owens today. Not sure who all is who, but the good news for NMSU is that Brooke Salas (26 points vs. Stanford in the NCAAs, Top 10 career scorer in the making) is a top left next to last season's top recruit Gia Pack, the 2016 Gatorade Arizona POY, Aaliyah Prince, a stellar Texan who had to redshirt as a frosh is in the lower right corner. Starting PG from a year ago, Zaire Williams is next to her and 6-3 redshirt soph Geneva Toilolo is at the far left.

From pictures I think Pam Wilmore has on light blue jacket and headband.
