I said this on another thread. Antino Jackson essentially replaces EB.

SI did not include transfers for all the conferences, so they didn't include Zach Lofton, who averaged 16.8 ppg last season at Texas Southern (yes, a D-1 school) and is now at NMSU. Lofton, a 6-4 guard, was an AP All-American Honorable Mention and Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He is a graduate transfer.

    Here's a link to Lofton's bio at NMSU: http://nmstatesports.com/roster.aspx...66&path=mbball

Am I missing something here? Looking at McNeal's bio on the Lobo website, he averaged 13.1 points last year, and this transfer info lists him as averaging 5 pts?

These are projecting points per a game for the 2017-18 season by SI.

Odd the JUCO leading scorer isn't on this list.

Isn't he also the one that played at Western Kentucky? Maybe his 5ppg were there as a frosh?

If this list truly did include just jucos, where is Simon's on the list? Didn't he lead all Jucos in scoring?

I get the impression that a lot of these preseason predictions aren't even based on a final roster. So many of them seem to have key players for UNM not even being mentioned...

I did some research on the last ten JC scoring champions that went on to play Div 1. As a whole, they averaged 8.4 ppg in division 1 in the season after they led JC in scoring. Only 3 of the ten averaged double figures in scoring.

So if the numbers hold true to form, we should not EXPECT Simons to average double figures in scoring. Of course, whether or not he does is to a large degree up to him.

I don't think it's fair to expect Simons to average double digit points without playing d1 level ball. Just thought it was odd that McNeal, who's known as a distributor, would make the top 100 list with no mention of a pure scorer like Simons.

    I agree.

Check out my other thread. The past JC scoring champs have not been lighting the world, or the scoreboard, on fire when they transition to Div 1.

Also, McNeal did average 5.6 ppg in his freshman season at WKU, so he, unlike Simons, has already played at this level.

Individual scoring largely depends on what kind of supporting staff and players may have on his style of play. Some coaches (none being mentiioned) want the ball to go inside..forego any 3 pt shots. Others may expect a "driving into the lane" style. and then some may have a total "green light", shoot it if your open...fast breaks...etc etc. I expect expectations are not being realistic. Lets be honest and see what will take place with our Lobo players.
    GO LOBOS!!!
