OT: NCAA findings on North Carolina - No Sanctions

    First Post Banner
Facing five Level 1 violations the NCAA determined no wrongdoing was committed

"The panel concluded that while student-athletes and athletics programs may have benefited from utilizing the courses, the general student body also benefited," a release from the NCAA said. "Based on both the information available in the record and North Carolina’s support of the courses that were offered as not violating its policies, the panel could not conclude that the university failed to monitor or lacked control over its athletics program."

So, I guess the moral of the story is make sure you're giving a few non-athletes a benefit and nothing happens?

its a sad day for college sports but its just a part of the trend that has been ongoing for some time now. amateurism, academics, sportsmenship and the less powerful (non-P5) continue to be sacrificed for the benefit of the $ for the P5.

maybe we should take a few regular students with the team for the practice at La Cueva HS...
Colorado State University’s subsidy trails only Air Force ($33.3 million) and San Diego State ($24.3 million) in the Mountain West and is nearly double that of New Mexico ($11.6 million), which is at the bottom of the list.

The precedent is now set, the NCAA can no longer police academic fraud and is a complete sham.

Lol. The NCAA is about to drop the hammer on an Akron, or a Florida A&M for some free McDonald's gift cards or letting a kid couch surf for a couple of weeks. Somebody is going to atone for UNC's mistakes.

Nice to see someone who understands how the NCAA works.

Meanwhile didn’t UNM lose 10 scholarships for a 4-5 year span that basically tanked our football program For much less violations.

    This is sad.

I hadn't paid much attention to this whole thing but I went and read the allegations. Boy, that is some pretty shady stuff. If the NCAA can't (or won't) sanction for that, what good is the NCAA?

Sickening. Corrupt and disgusting. Really angers me, and I know it is not surprising, but I guess I was still holding on to some hope that the NCAA had some value.

NCAA is a complete sham. No doubt $$ were exchanged behind the scenes.

The NCAA doesn't want to comment on the academics of UNC......but they have no trouble at all evaluating the academics of high schools ....via the NCAA clearing house....
Can you believe my neighbor came knocking at my door at 2:30 AM this morning......Good thing I was still up playing my bagpipes......

    .....maybe next year......
