Lobos v Buffalos Postgame Thread: It's Nearly Christmas I Hope You're All Good Boys and Girls

    First Post Banner
We shot bad outside of the Pit again, this schedule is proving to be a killer.

    Positives:

    Anthony Mathis
    Makuach Maluach
Joe turning into The Rock for 5 solid seconds
    Dane's defense

    Negatives:

Sam trying too hard to save the team when we're down 3
    Joe's shooting percentage
McNeal and Simons' help defense when we're within 2 points

    CU Postgame thoughts

    Yikes!

    37.5% from the FT line.

9-31 from 3 compared to 8-14 for our opponents.

    Killed again on the glass.

We have too many guys shooting bad shots. I'm all for the "green light" for guys that are open, but cmon you got to set your feet and not rush your shots. Way too many airballs tonight.

Weren't really killed on the glass. It was all defensive rebounds for the Buffs...Lobos shot horribly. 29% for the game.

If Fursty has to play 32 minutes against anybody, Lobo Basketball is in trouble.

Going to be hard to keep trying to spin every beatdown as a positive. At some point, you need to show progress.

The bad shots are an epidemic with this team. Effort is good, but discipline and execution are severely lacking.

CU predicted 9th in pac 12 in October. Many points ahead of 10th place predicted Washington....who just won tonight at Kansas ..crazy world. Cu played great defense or Lobos had no offense second half.

Our poor shooting really compliments our poor rebounding.

Hard to tell what CU is especially with their big guy out . Lobo Basketball makes everyone look ugly. I can't imagine Buffs being better than a 17-14 NIT type club though.

I think they made good adjustments at halftime though. They did a better job of sticking on Lobo Basketball's 3pt shooters.

We shoot 37.5% from the line. We will not win any games shooting that. We shoot under 30% from the field and from the three. We won't win much with that either.

I did think that we could shoot I am beginning to think I was wrong. So far Anthony and Makauch both need more time on the floor.

We had a ton of good looks pop out. Simon's shot has a lot of spin, and I don't remember it doing that before.

We were going to have a tough year this year no matter what... but it is tough to watch all the terrible shots and matador defense.

I thought we improved from the UTEP game though for spurts in the game ... hopefully we see more improvement against the Aggies.

The correlation between pressing all game and having no legs on your shots could be real. Weir has to be searching for answers.

Tonight they couldn't even make a free throw or a layup.

I thought the defense wasn't as intense, but just as effective. We tried too hard on offense and forced so much, and I think that's what tired us out.

Mathis and McNeal must've run a mile just on off ball movement, because our inside-outside game was so poor.

The last 10 minutes of the first half and first 10 minutes of the second I thought UNM played pretty decently. Defense was fairly solid (or CU was just bad), and I thought the offense had some rhythm. Outside of that, the defense was poor and shot selection got worse as the game went on. I thought Sam really forced some shots when we needed good shots.

Vance Jackson and Jaquan Lyle are the answer ... besides MM and logwood (sometimes) we don’t have a player that can score at the rim ... just a bunch of little guards ... both these guys have size and are not just three point shooters that will open things up hugely for Mathis, McNeal, Simons, Kuiper etc...

A 6’8 scorer and 6’5 point guard will make this a completely different team ...

I agree, but I would think that Vance and Jaquan are capable of getting tired also. But maybe they really are superhuman.

Mathis is the best shooter in the program and even he couldn't make a free throw by the end.

With this current team, I'd like to see the freshmen play even more. Both have good potential and can be big contributors in the future. What do we have to lose at this point?

Next year will be interesting because with talents like Jackson and Lyle can we really afford to just play those guys 22 minutes a game? ... you’re right they will get tired too and they can’t press for 32 minutes a game.

Also I totally agree we need the freshman and Simmons/Simons to develop as much as possible.

Isn't this exactly why we made a coaching change? Last 3 years were bad shot selection, no discipline and poor execution.

If nothing else, by year end, we should see 500% improvement in all 3 of those areas. If we do, we might actually win a few games.

Quit beating yourself up. It is not going to happen this year. We just do not have the talent. I tried to mention that before the season but was careful not to be a Debbie Downer. Be patient for next year. This is indeed a developmental year. One thing to do is to play Maluach a lot of minutes. Same with Vlad. They are young pups but let them get a lot of minutes. With a summer and more strength as sophs they could be very good next year to go with our two trannies ( I mean transfers).

At least we are not Cal. They are getting beat by Cental Arkansas 79-47with 7 minutes to go.

Does the frantic defense lead to frantic offense? The offense needs to slow down one notch and breathe. When they do they make more shots.

    Go Lobos.

Not exactly, but way to extrapolate from the real reasons we moved on. It was what was going on behind the scenes that facilitated his departure.

Anyways, 50% improvement in just shot selection would've done wonders tonight. That 8-0 run with 7 left was all poor shots with plenty of time on the clock.

Why can't you people just admit this is a very bad basketball team? There are no positives. This guy Weir is making Richie McKay look like John Wooden
