    Puts a smile on my face to watch Furstinger do what he is doing. Reminds me of Bairstow in that regard. To watch a player as a freshman and see that player 4 years later, and what progress has been made. Priceless. If he can keep this up, I think UNM is a tough out.

    i agree. On that note since someone said they couldn't teach effort, looks like someone coach knows how to Coach Up.

    I thought Joe had earned time last year and was really disappointed that he didn't get it then. I wish he could have played and developed more prior to this year. :-)

    A bit tired of that out of context "can't coach effort" stuff but regardless, effort has NEVER been a problem for Joe F. no matter which coach - may be other things "coach related" but not effort.

    Kirk had a double-double in 5 straight games to start the 2013-2014 season. Prior to that, Drew Gordon had 4 straight to end the 2011-2012 season, all in the MWC Tournament and NCAA Tournament.

    Yep, that is the correct number. I somehow skipped over the San Diego game.

    That's a pretty impressive streak. Fursty is in elite company with Alex and Drew there.

    Possibly his best block was the one the refs called a foul on. It was oh so clean!

    We can't compare anyone to Cam Bairstow, but Joe is at least having a Daniel Faris type transformation as a senior this year. He's been the best and most consistent player on this team night in and night out.

    Been fun to watch.

    I agree with the Faris comparison. Although their games are different, Joe has made a similar surprising jump to turn into one of best and most consistent post players in the conference. At first I thought he might have just been on a two or three game roll, but it looks like we'll see this type of play from him the remainder of the year. Just like Faris, he wasn't utilized much by his prior coach--partly because of who he was playing behind and partly because of the coach's decision on how to use him.

    Am I missing something? Joe hasn't had four straight double doubles. He had 15 points and 6 rebounds at Boise St.

    My god the Pokes fans were whining about the officiating tonight (as was their coach). It seemed like there was no shortage of bad calls going either way though. Dalton travels all the time with no call. James pushes off. Other than the officiating though I liked the way both teams played. A ton of energy on both ends of the floor.

    Smart guy, Joe did have four straight Double Doubles this year. I believe this is his 5th or 6th Double double of the season. The guy is having an awesome season so far. He is probably one the better centers in the league.

    I too, will happily admit that I did not have a clue that Furstinger would ever be the player he is today. Who knew? He started to show that heart and desire last season. But, he has taken that leadership role on with all he has got this season. Truly a transformation that ranks right up there with Faris and Bairstow.

    I will have to give credit for Bairstow's transformation to the coaches of the Austrailian national team. He absolutely came back to UNM as a beast after spending the summer on that team.

    Weir and his staff get the credit, in my mind, for the development of Furstinger. He is becoming a better basketball player with each game. Kudos to Furstinger and all the work he has put in.
