    MaCLUTCH Maluach

    First Post Banner
Is he cementing himself as a top 3 player for this year's squad (after Joe and Antino)? The freshman is nails from the line, can hit the open three, has a quick first step, displays touch around the basket, has a feel for making crisp passes... The list goes on.

Really looking forward to watching this kid grow as a Lobo!

Edit: I didn't even mention his defensive effort - for a freshman he's been outstanding.

    Couldn’t agree more. Can’t believe he’s a true freshman.

I think he's going to be special as an upper classman and very good before that. Really coming into his own.

I think he's the best freshman we have had since Kendal Williams. He is smooth.

Gonna by big for our Lobos for a long time! Love his confidence and aggressive play. Him at the 4 is not too much of a stretch... as in, a stretch 4. He's not prototypical for a 4, but he's so long and quick, he can disrupt on both ends! Lots of double digits and highlights for him in the future of this program!

Really going to be hard to keep him out of the starting lineup. Most freshmen show a bit of fear for the game at this level. He does show any fear to play his game.
My position as a moderator adds no validity to my opinions. I am a fan just like you and as such when I express a view it represents me and me alone and carries no more weight than any other fan other than the fact that I am always right. (Like everyone else.)

He's doing great at the 4, but IMO, will be even better at the 3, as he can take his guy off the dribble and help rebound from the 3 position. He can also hit those open 3's. It will make us much better next year.

That kid is nails. Love his game and fearlessness.

He's going to kill teams even more in the future while they focus on Vance, Jaquan, et al. The new silent assassin. I've been saying it.

He also has the intensity of Joe Furstinger. That can be key in leading the charge for the new direction for this program.

Maluach's stats are better as a freshman so far. Tony showed promise early, but was more a late bloomer. He didn't get Makuach type numbers until his sophomore year when he was playing 25 minutes a game. So Maluach is doing incredibly well for a freshman.

    Snell per game freshman average:
    17.5 minutes
    36.4% field goals
    34.5% 3 pointers
    73.5% free throws
    1.9 rebounds
    4.4 points

    Maluach per game average:
    16.5 minutes
    58% field goals
    42.3% 3 pointers
    82.8% free throws
    2.6 rebounds
    7.2 points

And just think that Maluache was ignored by most programs. Weir and Harriman showed that they can find a gem overseas. I am looking forward to more of that, and getting some good ones from Canada.

I've said it on other threads but he has a great feel in traffic near the rim. He is by far our most consistent finisher when he gets to the hole. Great job. Yes, I agree - he shows no fear. He's still raw sometimes but the more minutes he plays the better he'll get. Sam's injury and Troy's suspension have been of benefit to a few players, but especially he and Anthony IMO.

How about that post move he put on also. Would love to see him get a few touches closer to the basket when he has an advantage. He has shown some excellent moves down there. Very surprising how good this kid is.

That post move brought back flashbacks of Embiid showcasing his footwork against Kirk a few years ago. So smooth and left the defender 2 steps behind.

Maluach is so versatile - whether that's out on the wing or in the post he never looks uncomfortable. Insane that he's only a freshman and didn't pick up a basketball until he was 12 years old.

And did you see that we started the game by spreading out the floor and letting Malauch drive on Hayden Dalton, the 6-8 wing who has given us fits for a few years? Our staff has enormous confidence in the young man, at least on the offensive end. Because he is very bright and a hard worker, Weir has expressed confidence that he will also become a superior defender. I agree with the above comment that he has been our best freshman since Kendall.

Agree on 4th best. I would add however, (at this point in his career). While these other Aussies have set the bar pretty high, MM I think is a special talent. Time will tell.

I would say we won't be able to accurately rank his place among those Aussies until his career is over. Had we ranked any of those other players halfway through their freshman year, we'd likely have a different take on how good they are compared with how we see them now with a full college career under their belts.

His steal and dunk against NMSU I believe was a highlight of the year for me (as far as the bench going crazy and the fans going crazy). I thought that was going to be a game changing event. But it showed me, we have a couple great years left with that fella

So next year will he be competing with Dane and Jachai at the wing? Will that end up being his position or will he rove between 2, 3, and 4 possibly.
