    M&M

    First Post Banner
This guy is truly special! I'm sure coach Harriman had something to do with this get. I can't remember a better true freshman, kw was good as frosh, ak was good as a frosh, Snell was good as a frosh but m&m has been better. I'm thinking best true freshman since Lamont Long? I'd love to hear the older guys comments on this one.

Maluach is coming on strong but Kendall had a better freshmen year.

Maluach is definitely special. I think we'll get to see a bunch of his improvement based on the trajectory of his frosh year. If he improves each year the sky is the limit for this guy. He has it all.

KDub was a force his freshman year - 30 mins per game, 11.6 points, 4 assists and shot over 42% from 3 (Not sure if Lamont even matched that?). As much as I love MM, I think we need to let the year play out before we crown his freshman year better than KDub's.

Thanks for the stats I haven't really looked at them. I'm just excited about this guy! We shall see the way it plays out the rest of the year

    Maluach stats last night:19pts, 3rebs, 1ast, 7-12 fg, 2-3 3fg, 3-4 ft.
    Brandon McCoy for UNLV: 9pts, 6rebs, 1blk, 4-10 fg, 0-1 3fg, 1-3 ft.

Maluach outplayed (McCoy) the preseason MWC freshman of the year and most mock drafts have McCoy as a 1st round NBA pick this summer.

And Maluach got his 19 points in only 19 minutes. I'd like to see him ~25min/game. He's good!

He would have played more. But he got in foul trouble and eventually fouled out.

I find it funny that the UNLV players were complaining that the refs are unfair with them. From my perspective, there were so many blatant fouls by UNLV that went uncalled. That is what led to coach getting a technical. We should have shot a lot more free throws.

I’m really excited by M&M currently and his potential for the future. Remember he didn’t get here till August, imagine with a full offseason of physical and skill development. Kid has star potential!

The kid plays with poise. He a natural scorer. He never gets rattled. He's a ptp player as Dicky V would say.

I am on the M&M Train and he just may be my favorite Freshman to date but the best one and immediate impact is KT.

One metric to compare Kendall and MM is PER. MM is currently at 19.5 and KW was 19.6 his first year. But the big difference is that MM is getting better. His PER in conference so far is over 25 while KW was around 15 in conference. I will grant that KW played against a little stronger competition but MM is improving game by game. At this rate by the end of the season the answer to this question could be clearer than it is now.

Different position natch, but Kenny Thomas as an impact player as a frosh comes to mind.

KW was also surrounded by more talent...that makes a big difference. Not that I would necessarily pick M/M over KW, but what M/M is doing is pretty darn impressive.

UNLV got a lot of 'and-one' calls in the 2nd half, that's for sure.

MM will fill out the roster really well next year. Prior to this year, I was thinking we would need an impact D-I transfer(to play the 3) to go with Drimmon, Lyle and Jackson next year in order for the Lobos to really make some noise.... but a lineup that includes MM next year with the Drimmon, Lyle and Jackson will be awesome. Anyone else we get to commit is just icing on the cake.

I absolutely love the way M&M is coming around. Huge upside. He is probably the best all around player on the team right now.

KW and Kenny Thomas were 2 of the best. Would have loved to have seen Damien Jefferson play this style.

In my opinion Kenny Thomas and Charles Smith were the best freshmen I have seen in a Lobo uniform. Maluach is a natural scorer and has a few games left to crack my top two. I put him before Kendall because I feel he has a more complete inside/outside game. I also think he will continue to improve and maybe make an NBA roster.....something I don't believe Kendall has done.

He seems to be getting better each game. Looks like he is going to be a solid player for sure.

Input from an Aggie fan (don't pile on LOL), but watching MM's progress reminds me a lot of Pascal Siakam. Pascal was a solid player but he improved A LOT throughout his freshman year and then had a stellar 2nd year. I think Maluach is on the same track. Weir can develop talent. He's also a better in-game coach than his predecessor (as was apparent in Vegas).

Maluach and Mathis are going to be huge for the Lobos next year, even with the additional players.

The biggest thing is he looks so natural out there. Some of his takes to them rim look like he's barely trying, and nobody can stop him. He move's very fluently around the court, and can feel when he has an opportunity to score, rather than force it, or miss a chance. he is easily the best finisher around the hoop, and has one of the better strokes on the team. His problem, which really isn't too big, is his strength and explosiveness, but he still has plenty for a frosh. If he adds the power to go to the rim stronger, dunk, block, and sky for rebounds, he will be a high NBA prospect. He caught my eye as soon as a saw him in the first exhibition, and now is catching everybody's eye. All i can say is wait till he has an off season of work under his belt... it might be SHOWTIME in the THE PIT!!!!

M&M had a great game and is really starting to improve, but how about our other frosh Pinchuk?! He deserves some kudos for also outscoring Brandon McCoy. Pinchuk had 10 Points and was a perfect 5/5 from the field. Pretty impressive night for him as well.

Best frosh ever? For me it would be KT, Charles Smith, Lamont Long, Hunter Green, KW, Luc, Darise Gary, Hugh Greenwood, Rob Robbins & I'm sure I'm missing some.

I think Kenny Thomas is the best freshman ever in a Lobo uniform. M&M is good. If he gets in the weight room and puts on some muscle, look out! He's got the talent but needs the strength & explosiveness. I really like the potential in this young player. The experience he's getting is really building his confidence.

I've seen people say that MM will be even better next year once he moves back to his natural position. I'm going to have to throw a little bit of cold water on that. Not a lot, maybe just a teaspoon. I think part of the reason he's playing so well is that he's playing the 4. He's a mismatch. If his man doesn't come out on him, he can hit the three. If he does come out to guard him, MM is quicker than most 4's and can drive by him. Next year when he's playing the 3, he'll see more defenders with his similar athleticism. It probably won't look as easy for him because of that. That said, I think he'll be better, but you just may not see it in his stats. With the position change, and Lyle and VJax playing he won't be needed to score as much.

I really like his unpredictability...does different things in same situations which makes him very tough to defend...
