The cherry blazer is for "big games" not for beating up on your little brother down south

Every game is a "big game" and the coach, players, and fans, should treat every game as a big game. He doesn't need to wear a jacket to remind us.

Honestly, the red blazer to me always makes the coach look like a Commonwealth Theaters manager.

I could care less what he wears, as long as we win!

Growing up I attended most every game and all the big ones in the pit with Bliss as coach and I can say I don’t recall a cherry blazer being worn to games by Bliss. I’ll admit it fired me up when Alford would do it- but really it’s about the kids playing the ball game not the coach. Almost like he was trying to be a bigger part of the experience and make it all about him for a moment when he’d walk down the ramp wearing it. My guess is he doesn’t have a special UCLA blazer.

This was more a Krebs' tradition. It was Krebs that starting introducing newly hired coaches with the red blazer. As for Alford, it was his choice, and always seem to wear it for games of meaning during his highly successful era.

Personally don't care if Weir wears it, but it's his choice. Weir had made more references to Norm Ellenberger than Alford. It would be cooler if Coach Weir were to wear bell bottom dress pants and a nice v-neck sweater, with a turquoise necklace and a turquoise bracelet.

I just think its a bad move mentally for your team.
Hadn't thought of that angle, good point. I think it's especially relevant with a team that is struggling with confidence. If you're doing well and in a good spot as a team perhaps that becomes less of a factor. It's definitely a thing for the fans much more than anyone else.

Win(s) in the big dance are more important. The MWC is so watered down and pathetic from what it once used to be that rings don't matter as much. I know rings have been the ceiling here but it would be nice to see a NCAA run and gain some national recognition. The fans deserve to see that at some point in their lifetime.

Sounds like you are overanalyzing coach wearing a different color blazer. If the players are impacted negatively by the coaches wardrobe would I question their mental toughness.

I love the Blazer. Itís noteworthy and a tradition. Bigger than Alford or Neal. Of course itís a bit ugly, but itís better than sweater vests. Iím more worried about Weir putting on a tie.
