    Alumni games

I really enjoyed the alumni game during the 2006 Lobo Howl. Anyone else like that format? Hopefully, UNM will do something similar again soon.

The women, meanwhile, will have a pretty star-studded lineup for their alumni game. Fans may not recognize the freshmen just yet, but they will know the alums.
Scheduled to play are Jordan Adams, Chelsea Grear, Abby Garchek-Jaramillo, Melissa Forest, Nikki Heckroth, Cristal Garcia, Tamika Stukes, Sally Marquez, Liz Traille-Chavez, Anita Vuletic and two players who have picked up new last names through marriage in the past year, Mandi Moore (Stovall) and Lindsey Arndt (Day). Abbie Letz and Judy Vogt will serve as alumni coaches.
"It'll be nice," Lobo coach Don Flanagan said. "We still have an hour of practice this week, so we're going to practice from 2 to 3 (today) and then have a get-together with the alumni. We'll get the whole group together. I'm looking forward to it."
In the women's 3-point shooting contest, three of the newcomersó Amy Beggin, Georonika Jackson and Eileen Weissmannó will be able to strut their stuff for the crowd for the first time, although Flanagan has installed Katie Montgomery and Julie Briody as the favorites.
In fact, Flanagan said, he made sure his two seniors were on opposite sides to the bracket in an attempt to set up a thrilling finale.

Two things I remember about that game:

    1) Abby Garchek just had a baby 4 weeks before the game and was still amazingly the best player on the floor.

    2) The team that scrimmaged after the game wasn't as talented as the alumni, which was kind of a foreshadowing that the program peaked around 2003 to 2006.
