    Carlton Bragg

    First Post Banner
It looks like he has a year and a half of eligibility left
i wonder if Weir will sit him out until the second semester so
he’ll have two seasons of conference play?

He can't play until next Spring, so I don't think there is any other choice.

The last player I recall being in that situation was Drew Gordon. Looking at the schedule from that year, it appears he played his first game December 22nd and missed the first 10 of the season which isn't bad.

Let's hope he is all that. Plus he (and everyone on the team for that matter) have a long journey of humility to take to accept Weir's system and demands.

I believe Danny Granger was also held out until mid season when he joined the team from Bradley.

Yes, he and DeVries that year. They both came in mid semester. Don't recall about Troy, but Danny hit the ground running and was an impact immediately (not surprising in retrospect, for a future NBA all-star ;-)

I'm a little surprised he's not already here? I get he's taking online classes, etc, however, he also needs to start practicing with the team so Weir can make a decision on whether he will be able to mesh with the team and meet the rigors of the program. I assume if he does, he'll be on scholarship for the summer semester and forward? The quicker he can, the quicker his housing, etc is all paid for.

Believe he means being OK with Bragg becoming eligible at the semester break next season.

But, yeah, he's not here right now. Probably because there was no scholarship to give him this semester. The plan appears to be to get him on scholarship and on campus this summer. Weir is big on the summer conditioning and training program. I'm sure he wants everybody participating in that. New guys included.

And As I recall that was by 5 star Ohio State transfer Jaquan Lyle who said something like “ this ain’t Ohio State or Kansas”. Really shows you how even a five star recruit has bought in to Weirs “ hard work” system!

I was under the impression when coach Weir mentioned the announcement that he would walk on and be here for the spring semester and if everything went as it should, he would earn and be on scholarship? Basically, a trial phase before the actual scholarship is awarded? I assumed, that meant, work out with the team, weight room work, this spring, etc.

I don't remember all the details on the Rusher situation. I know he arrived for summer school and we awarded him a scholarship. He then was having issues fairly quickly and was dismissed from the team before the summer was over. Was that scholarship then available for the fall and spring and we brought in another player for that season?

What makes you think he's not. I always wonder if you really pay attention to this board or news about the Lobos.

He started taking online classes through UNM until he was sure to be a Lobo. He came late January around the 25th. It was reported here and in the news.

Since he's not here this semester, just a student taking online classes, then I assume the summer becomes the trial period. Season is over now anyway, so no real practices anymore. There will be some individual workouts and such the rest of the spring, but he can probably get in the groove in the summer. The guy may not have had the financial means to move/live here without a scholarship. As I recall, he's in Phoenix with wife/girlfriend and child. All those logistics probably work better once he does have a scholarship.

????????? Yeah, he came for a visit for a single game and spoke with coach for extended periods and both decided they wanted to do this. However, what does any of this have to do with his living situation and not being in ABQ yet and not yet practicing with the team?

It appears to have to do with money. It certainly isn't ideal, but if he works out he will certainly be worth the wait.

Not really. I think Carlton will be here next year. Things are looking up for Unm. I can't wait to see who else we get next year. I don't think were done yet recruiting.

I thought coach at one of his pressers or maybe it was paper interview said he's not here right now because he has family obligations in Phoenix. I am not positive, but he may have a kid. It may not be that easy to move until after spring. I do like and respect his family conviction.
