Ummm, no.
I heard Chavez on the radio last week and he was very firm about wanting to help more than just Athletics.
What is Zoom talking about? Of Dreamstyle Remodeling's $1million naming rights fee, $800,000 is already slated for UNM athletics, $100,000 for other UNM activities and $100,000 to Learfield who pays for control of UNM Athletics outside activities including naming rights.
over 10 years = $1,000,000...let the main campus fund those other activities...$100,000 for other UNM activities

Zoom is correct, $1 million for other programs at UNM, outside of Athletics over a 10 year period for the naming rights. However, Larry Chaves Sr. of Dreamstyle wanted it this way and this is what the signed contract indicates.
If Chavez is going to go deep in his pockets he's got to have some say over how it's spent. Have to respect him for taking over sponsorship and making the commitment.

"As of Saturday night, it would appear the Mountain West Conference has two NCAA tournament-worthy teams. As long as they can find the remains of one of them."
Why would he? That money is already allocated to other places. What Zoom is talking about would be the equivalent of buying a $65000 truck you can't afford and then using your credit card to make the car payment. The budget situation is the direct result of misappropriation of funds, poor coaching hires/contracts, the Pit luxury box debacle, and lost revenue due to Neal cratering the MBB program and to a lesser extent Yvonne Sanchez slowly draining the WBB program which was one of the few women's programs operating in black. Factor in a sprinkle of poor marketing of football, and an apathetic football fan base and here we are. UNM needs to make some of these tough cuts and not keep kicking the can down the road or expecting to be bailed out by taxpayers, student fees, or Chavez.
