    2016 Top 25 Class Transfers

    First Post Banner
13 of top 25 ESPN's 2016 class have transferred. Maybe the top 100 will start looking a little closer when making their choice.

Or maybe coaches will spend more time evaluating players instead of just signing players that have gaudy rankings. It's a little bit of both. A lot of those transfers didn't turn out to be top 25 players and didn't belong in the starting lineup of Top 25 programs.

Most players have good games and bad. If a coach (or scout) doesn't see enough games, they can get a skewed view of how good or bad a player is capable of playing on the average. Most players can produce an impressive highlight video where they shoot 100%, but reality is displayed by watching hours of uncut games.

And some coaches and programs develop players a lot better than others.

While some of it may be attributed to inaccurate rankings or mismatched recruitment, there are several others factors involved . First, some of the girls went to a school only to find a coaching change with a style that did not match their talents. Other coaches might have over recruited in a certain area, and the girls foud they would not fit into the coaches plans. Some girls realize they can’t be that far from home for one reason or another, such as an illness in the family or just inability to get over homesickness. In addition, a couple of these girls were injured during either their freshman or sophomore campaign, and sat out for significant amounts of time. Being able to come back and to crack a lineup is hard. Especially with a new crop of freshman coming in.

#14, Sierra Campisano, is one of 4 Duck players to leave, seeking more playing time. One, Mallory McGwire, (I think she's related to Mark McGwire of baseball fame/infamy) transferred to Boise State. She was sort of a "6th man" for the Ducks, starting when Lexi Bando was injured, and serving as the first big (she's 6'5") off the bench. Her freshman year, 16-17, she was a starter for the second half of the year, but this year she was bumped by the #1 international player. She has a good mid-range jumper. Considering how good the Ducks were, she is a major get for the Broncos. Eligible in '19-'20. Campisano and McGwire were going to be behind #5 on the list, Erin Boley, who transferred from Notre Dame last year, and will be eligible this year, and possibly behind the younger sister of the #1 international player. Both Boley and Ionescu were each national POY two years ago for some services.

Kelly Graves is doing an outstanding job recruiting and, apparently coaching as well. I look for the Ducks to make the final 4 this coming year.
