Lay your money down: Court says states can OK sports betting

"The Supreme Court cleared the way Monday for states coast to coast to legalize betting on sports, breaking a longtime ban and creating a potential financial boon for states and the gambling industry. The first bets could be placed within weeks."

"Rep. Antonio “Moe” Maestas, D-Albuquerque, said he’ll be pushing for discussion on the issue during interim legislative committees this year, with possible bills to follow during the 2019 session. The state’s tribal casinos could also look to cash in on sports gambling."

"Americans wager about $150 billion on sports each year illegally, according to the American Gaming Association. The law the justices struck down forbade state-authorized sports gambling with some exceptions and made Nevada the only state where a person could wager on the results of a single game."

I assume existing tribal casinos will build out sports books as soon as the states give them authority. They may have already started remodeling....

If the State Government's have the say-so, why put the Kiosks in the casinos? NM could setup their own venues. WHY SHARE

The state will never authorize sports books outside of existing casinos and racinos.

I have a problem with our poverty in this state and think it will only make things worse. It's just another way to fleece the poor if you ask me. People that have money to gamble usually don't. Just walk through any casino and see the type of people playing slots. I know some of you on here may go play but the majority look desperate.

Somehow the state needs to tax these books just like slots or it's a waste of money. That's the only way I would allow books in this state.

The only ones who are going to get hurt are the bookies. I think you're being a little bit naive. The majority of the people that'd be betting on sports are the ones who are already doing it illegal.

This makes too much sense, which is why it probably won't happen here
