    MWC Players in the WNBA

    First Post Banner
In the 20 year history of the MWC, there were nine players who made the WNBA in the first decade. Only three have made it in the last decade (all from SDSU) and none in the last five years. Only two players - Leilani Mitchell (Utah) and Chelsea Hopkins (SDSU) - are currently on rosters.

Here are the names of MWC players I found who have played in the WNBA. (A few others were drafted or invited to preseason camp, but never scored in a regular season game.)

    5841 points - Becky Hammon, CSU (1999-2014)
    1667 points - Leilani Mitchell, Utah (2008-present)
    1348 points - Erin Thorn, BYU (2003-2013)
    169 points - Linda Frohlich, UNLV (2002, 2003, 2006, 2007)
    167 points - Sequoia Holmes, UNLV (2008, 2010, 2017)
    146 points - Courtney Clements, SDSU (2013 & 2014)
    107 points - Kim Smith, Utah (2006-2008)
    89 points - Jene Morris, SDSU (2010 & 2012)
    33 points - Jordan Adams, UNM (2003)
    18 points - Shona Thorburn, Utah (2006-2007)
    6 points - Chelsea Hopkins, SDSU (2013, 2018)
    2 points - Adrianne Ross, TCU (2008)

As you can see from the list above, only three players sustained a long career in the WNBA - Becky Hammon, Leilani Mitchell, and Erin Thorn. And the gap between the Mountain West and the WNBA appears to be growing.

I was a bit surprised to see that Mitchell has been playing in the WNBA for the last ten years. I don't think of her as the second-best all-time player in the MWC. But that might be because she only played one year at Utah after transferring from Idaho. She was the first player I remember getting a two-year scholarship to play one year. The lobos have offered three players that deal since coach Mike arrived.
