i ask about the three (i think) local girls who are on the lobos radar...who are they, their class, their positions and size...what are the lobos realistic chances...would they come as a group...do they have a relationship with each other...flanagan talked tonite of recruiting heavily here right now...

    Recruits

I hope these facts are correct, and am sure to be corrected if they are not.

The three players who get most of the mention are Ebony Walker 6'2" post at Sandia, and two Cibola players, Korina Chapman a 6 foot wing and Amber Battle a 5'9" guard (and outstanding sprinter in track). Battle is a Sophomore, the others Juniors and thus candidates for signing next fall.

There is lots of speculation on various boards about their recruiting status, and whether they are anxious to "get away", but the only thing that seems firm is that they are among the best to come out of ABQ in a long time and will have lots of offers, including UNM.

Walker as a post with the highest national ranking and Battle as an apparently spectacular guard get the most press. It seems pretty clear that if somehow all three signed up as Lobos, the talent level would be extraordinary AND there would be a big jump in local fan interest, something that has been lacking for a few years now; even one would be a great step forward.

Hopefully someone with inside knowledge can add more.

The big Sandia vs Cibola game last night hand about 5-6 different high major programs in attendance. Oklahoma, Texas Tech flew in on their personal jet, and others flew in to attend this game. These girls are BIG time.

I believe UNM still has a chance with Amber from what I was told last night. A slim one, but a chance. Whats working in our favor is their families.

I hope they stay here. It would be great for them and for the program. It is a great life advantage to be a "hometown hero" - especially for women athletes . I understand that a lot of kids want to "go away" for college (heck I did), but being a well-known UNM athlete is a great advantage for one's career and even her kids (now that's long-term thinking).

I know that if a Flanagan graduate were looking for a job and they had skills that my company needed, I'd hire her in a flash because I'd know she was smart and of good character.

Well, considering they travel all summer together on the NM Heat Elite, I would say they know each other a little. Some say that Tech is out front with others to make up ground.
