Matt Staff

Coach Alford on last night's radio show brought us up-to-date on our 2009 recruits. Matt Staff is averaging 18 ppg and 13 rebounds, leading Houston in that category. Jamal Fenton is averaging 22 ppg and most likely will repeat as the conference POY. Hobson has very solid numbers in points, rebounds, and assists, and should be a Juco AA. His numbers would be even better but for his reduced minutes in many games when there is a blowout.
Chad Adams is averaging something like 20-10 for Highland High. Curtis Dennis has improved substantially in his redshirt year and can be an explosive scorer. Things sounding very good for these young men.

The things they do with technology these days never cease to amaze me. I think RPS added another upgrade to the site. Its the Garishspeakometer that automatically filters his posts and translates them into something we can understand. I was just interpreting it as Klingon and that was working for me.

I don't know if anyone noticed the student section at the CSU game. I was very impressed with the student section getting involved prior and during the game. It's very enlightening to see the students getting on board and bringing the school spirit back to Loboland. Awesome! The Newspapers, the signs...and Snake doing his thing giving the opponent coaches a bit of lip. (reminds me of what ex Utah Coach Majerus stated once. "They'd make my coaching from that area very difficult to do") YUP....it was Awesome!

I am very interested in Staffs game. Very curious to see how effective he will be down low as well. We have all heard the "pick and pop" would be great to see him bang a little as well.

Just did a little digging and found this highlight video. I don't recall ever seeing this posted, so if it has been forgive me fellow lobos! Otherwise sit back and enjoy!

Matt Staff has a sweet shot, dribbles good, rebounds and blocks shots. His shots are high arc and DROPS right thru the NET.... what a under the radar recruit... I cannot wait to see him in the pit woof, woof woof !!

Did someone say he's slow? I thought he moved well without the ball on both the give and go and the backdoor cut, seems a lot like Ro, seems to play very smart, nice passes and seemed to have a good feel for position when he was under the basket rebounding. Didn't seem to be intimidated driving to the basket. And he overshadowed anyone trying to guard him outside. Just a great basketball awareness, like I said looks like a young Ro!! And oh yes he had great hands taking passes and scoring, moves well when taking a pass in stride and keeping his flow.
This will be great fit with all the athletes already on the team, he will be the calming man on the floor, he will fill what ever the Lobos need. This team will have size with Hobson, Matt, Pmac, Dennis, Nate and we will be stacked with ball handlers, now when the bigs start playing their game we will start to begin our shine!!
Now this years team is really starting to gel, this is going to be a good year, just watch!

great find Loopsups. thanks for sharing that. he's a 6'8" kid who can board and score. has got good athleticism. a sweet outside shot. can finish at the basket with a dunk. He shoots 78% from the FT line and 41% from 3 point range. He's a taller, possibly more athletic, version of Tops. What's not to like? Looks like a great pick up by the coaching staff (no pun intended).

Scroll down about halfway down the page and click on "Reel Action." The action is at :40 seconds to 1:30, from 4:30 to 5:25, and after 6:40 (you should be able to fast forward thru the interviews of Stratford coach and player that run from 1:30 to 4:30 and from 5:25 to 6:40). Staff had 26 points (8/10 fgs) and 10+ rebs (the rest of his team appears to be, well, a little athletically challenged; they only had 23 points in total). But, check out the behind the back dribble on the drive thru the lane and the dish off at about the 5:18 mark. Not many 6'9" 17 year-olds can do that.
