New Mexico head coach Paul Weir said he was sick to his stomach. Senior Anthony Mathis said he was truly embarrassed. Friday gives both of them, and the rest of the Lobos, a chance for redemption.

After Tuesday’s 100-65 loss to the New Mexico State Aggies, UNM is hoping to bounce back by taking a win over the Saint Mary’s Gaels on Friday afternoon. Spangenberg named Google Cloud Academic All-America

New Mexico soccer player Simon Spangenberg was named the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I men’s soccer. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Spangenberg, a senior from Brussels, Belgium. is a double major in computer science and applied mathematics. If that weren’t enough, he also has a minor in psychology and a 4.2 GPA. Continue reading “Spangenberg named Google Cloud Academic All-America”

Women’s basketball team gets three straight Player of the Week honors

Freshman Ahlise Hurst was this week’s Mountain West Player of the Week. She is the third straight player from the New Mexico women’s basketball team to receive this honor. The previous week it was Aisia Robertson. The week before that it was Jaisa Nunn.

Hurst hit nine three-pointers and recorded a total of 39 points, the most points scored by a freshman in Lobo history, during New Mexico’s 84-80 win over Oklahoma on Nov. 28.

The Lobo offense wasn’t quite there when the New Mexico State Aggies swept the Lobos in this season’s Rio Grande Rivalry series with a 100-65 result on Tuesday. This wasn’t quite what experts predicted as the opening line posted for this game was UNM +6. The team is in the middle of a three-game stretch on the road. Although it’s not the first time the Lobos hit the road this season, Paul Weir said this was more “business-oriented” since everyone knows what to expect.
