The Mountain West announced that University of New Mexico safety Marcus Hayes had been named Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.

Hayes, a redshirt freshman, is the first Lobo football player to receive this honor during the 2018 season. He earned it after his performance during UNM’s 42-25 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday. The Lobos intercepted a total of five passes that night, with Hayes being responsible for two of them. Continue reading “Football: Hayes MW Defensive Player of the Week”

Bob Davie knew exactly how to begin his opening statement during Tuesday’s press conference.

“There’s an elephant in the room. I know what you are all thinking,” Davie addressed the media. “Incarnate Word to Wisconsin.”

The University of New Mexico football team is traveling to Madison, Wis., to take on the University of Wisconsin Badgers. The University of New Mexico doesn’t have a starting quarterback yet, but head coach Bob Davie is deciding soon. It looks like the decision will be made between redshirt sophomore Tevaka Tuioti and redshirt senior Coltin Gerhart. Not long ago, there were three quarterbacks in the running but Sheriron Jones is now dealing with a hamstring injury.

Tevaka Tuioti redshirted as an incoming freshman in 2016. The following year he made eight appearances, including one start. This year could be his year to shine, but he is very humble about it. Continue reading “Tevaka Tuioti competes for the starting QB spot”

Aaron Blackwell has only one goal this season: To be outstanding.
