From Eddie Nunez a couple minutes ago:

--UNM's bid to host is in.  Have not heard, probably on Saturday

--Everyone at UNM is expecting to host games

--PBR is now April--all next week is open for BB games

--Legislature called to question/complain why the rodeo contract was cancelled (it wasn't)

Not that it matters (unless you are going), but I think the PBR is in May.

If it is true that the NM Legislature thought the rodeo contract was cancelled, then we have another example that they don't have a clue on what is going on in NM.

While I certainly wish we hadn't stumbled so badly in Vegas to blow our chances at the NCAAs...  A WNIT bid certainly isn't anything to be ashamed of for the Lobos, especially given the lack of time to adjust to the recent loss of AR...

Go Lobos!

It is nice to know that they do listen to us fans, even if it took a couple of years and a new AD.

this merely mentions that we are automatic qualifiers based on BSU's win in the title game.  It doesn't preclude us from the NCAA's, although, I think most think it's not even a remote chance at this point to make the tourney and I would also be on board with that sentiment.

I do think with the young team, it actually could get be a great spring-board for next year for all the returning players to get that post season experience and carry that with them to next year's MWCT and hopefully, post season after that.  Maybe, coach will go a bit deeper in the bench and see if we can keep the players fresh for the final 5-10 minutes of the game(s)?

Considering James Madison has an rpi of #38 & aren't even in listed in the first 8 out after losing in their Tourney, and Ohio is last in at #33, the Lady Lobos realistically were eliminated from any at large chances with the first SDSU loss.

The women’s tournament is less about the best teams and more about who can fill seats. You’ll see some 10-loss B10 team over many small schools because of their name only.

How is that any different than the NCAA tournament other than a few more loses for some teams.  The bias of seeding, match ups, statistical analysis, and of course money is just as prevalent in both tournaments.  The attendance bias for the NCAA tournament has been replaced by the top 16 seeded teams get the home games now, as if they didn't have enough in their favor before they changed it.

Unfortunately you are right.  Unlike the men's NIT where they have really focused on making it merit based over the last decade, the WNIT is still half merit and half money. That's why as long as they get a couple thousand at Uni Arena, Lady Lobos will continue to host as long as they are alive.

Hosting may be about money. But getting in is not. Top teams in conferences get the invites, 32 of them AQs.

You can add Lamar to your list.  Both them and SFA were upset today so you are gonna have a RPI 130ish 4 seed play a 230ish 6 seed for the auto bid and the likely privilege to be slaughtered at Baylor.

Auto Qualifiers.  I see that Lamar took SFA  and Cal Baptist took RGV place as auto Q in the Southland and WAC.  Cal Bap is in it's first year in the process to becoming D1.

Wow, the P5 or P6 teams are slowly disappearing from the WNIT. It is still a good tourney but this is why the Lobos (men or womens) should never ever play in the other crap-hole tourneys again. Let's go Ladies, let's win the WNIT!!

I doubt they do another TCU/UNM match-up?  Probably want to get different match-ups.  Bracket to be announced by 10:15 EST, so about 45 minutes or so.

weird, they embedded a bracket on their twitter, but if you go to the website, it's not up yet?

Our 3 possible opponents for the first week, Denver up first, then LMU or Idaho.

Possible S16 match-ups would be FSU or AZ.

Kind of weird they have every MWC team in the same 16 team bracket?  Must be solely geography?  Would be nice to mix it up just a bit?

TCU, UTA, Houston and Arkansas all in one bracket, which the winner of that bracket plays the winner of our bracket.

I have to assume, since we are in the top line, we are the #1 seed?  Probably have the highest RPI in the west bracket?

All in all a great set-up for us.
