Athletics was given $3.7 million and a $1.1 million increase from 2018’s state appropriation. The agreement brokered between the Senate and the House of Representatives. This puts them just above with the New Mexico State University appropriation for athletics which was $3.6 million.

Athletics’ total budget decreased by nearly $1 million — from $33.2 million in 2018 to $32.3 million for the total 2019 budget was attributed to a decrease in unspecified “Other State Funds” on the appropriation.

So - if I understand, while expenses continue to rise, the total budget for Athletics decreases by one million.  Terrific!!  smh

You understand it correctly. We are at square one. At least the Senate took out the micro-management language. Now I hope the showboat legislators go away for a year and let Stokes, Nunez, and the regents do their work.  All that showboating by these egotistical loudmouths and they come up with chump change and expect UNM to solve their problems.

In one thread you talk about being free with other people's jobs. Same concept applies here to being free with other people's money. IMO UNM hasn't done well with the money they had. Throwing money at the problem is not a solution. If they're the state is going to throw a bunch more money at UNM athletics then lets really get free with those coach's jobs and spend to bring in some folks that know how to win.

UNM already saved an alleged 1.9 million on the sports they cut.

From the Daily Lobo article, it sounds like the main issues for UNM have been austerity measures and cuts at the state level that are holdovers from the last recession combined with declining enrollment.
