Head coach Bob Davie and the Lobos host the Wyoming Cowboys for the last game of the 2018 season on Saturday at 12:30pm.
The series began in 1930 and it’s now a tight one with the Cowboys holding a slight 36-34 lead.
Wyoming finished last season with an 8-5 record. This year hasn’t been as good for the Cowboys who are 5-6 with one game left. But while they won’t finish with a winning record, a win against the Lobos will make them bowl eligible for the third consecutive season (the requirement is six wins). Wyoming hasn’t been bowl eligible for three consecutive seasons since 1997-99.
The Cowboys are coming in with a three-game winning streak, with their last victory being a 35-27 result over Air Force. This was an exciting game as the Cowboys found themselves down 27-14, but then scored three touchdowns in the last five minutes to pull off the victory.

The cherry and silver team is 3-8 and needs to win against Wyoming to avoid a repeat of last year’s 3-9 record. The last win for the 2017 team happened at the end of September. This year, the Lobos’ last positive result happened on Oct. 6 when they beat the UNLV Rebels 50-14 on the road.
New Mexico had to deal with quarterback injuries from the beginning of the season. They also lost senior linebacker Alex Hart with a season-ending injury that happened in September. Late October, senior linebacker Evahelotu Tohi was suspended because of an altercation that left teammate David Brown in the hospital. The Lobos dealt with other things, but at the end of the day, a weak defense and an inconsistent offense are what gave them their second straight losing season.
Since this will be the last game of the season, the Lobos will be recognizing 22 seniors for Senior Night. It’s also a game day for the men’s basketball team and the school is having a doubleheader promotion with $15 tickets.
