New Mexico at Fresno State

The Lobos are coming into this weekend with back-to-back losses and a 9-11 overall record, 3-5 in the conference. They take on the Fresno State Bulldogs on the road on Saturday night.
New Mexico has only won one out of its last six matchups. The last road game the Lobos won was on Jan. 2 against Air Force.
The team has struggled with consistency all season and has had to keep making adjustments in all areas.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had to become a more game-to-game team in order to try to get as much as we could out of this thing, this season or this upcoming game,” said head coach Paul Weir.
New Mexico’s last result was a 68-66 loss to Utah State. While the game ended with a poor officiating call, the Lobos’ first half left a lot to be desired. They were shooting at 27.59 percent from the field and made three out of 13 three-point attempts. The team’s most consistent scorer, senior guard Anthony Mathis, did not score at all in the first half.
Their comeback in the second half showed potential. If the Lobos can keep that momentum going into their game against the Bulldogs, they could have a chance. However, Fresno State won’t be an easy challenge.
The Bulldogs are 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the Mountain West conference. This season they are 9-2 when playing at Save Mart Center. The Lobos are 4-10 when playing there.
The team is coming in from a 75-62 win at Wyoming. Junior guard New Williams led the Bulldogs to victory with a career-high 24 points with six three-pointers, also a career-best stat for him.
Redshirt senior Braxton Huggins leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.5 points per game. Huggins is a familiar face for Weir, as he played at New Mexico State when the coach was there.
The freshman point guard has been out with a concussion. The protocol lasts 10 days, which have already passed. Weir said that when Drinnon comes back will be based on what he reports regarding how he’s feeling.
His first day back at practice was Thursday.
