Senior guard Anthony Mathis was named the Mountain West Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 27 points and tying his own career-best of six rebounds against the then-No. 5/6 Nevada. The Lobos handed the Wolf Pack its first loss of the season on Saturday.
This is the first time Mathis has received this honor.
New Mexico opened the year with a win and a 1-0 Mountain West record after defeating the Air Force Falcons on the road 65-58 on Wednesday night.
At halftime, the Lobos held a 38-29 lead, then were up 13 points with 13:20 remaining. However, it was a three-point game with one minute left.
